Moving to US after committing a crime bad idea

It has been common for criminals to escape (when I crossed the border from San Diego to Tijuana for a day trip, I was surprised to notice that you basically walk in to the country without inspection, though, there were a few totally bored cops harassing Mexicans with huge bags, probably looking for bribes) to Mexico after committing a crime in the United States and so many Hollywood movies actually glamorize it.  Until today I never heard of anyone escaping from Mexico to the United States after committing a crime.

Apparently, Kyle Kester, a Minnesota man, moved to Guadalajara and built a home there (it is understandable why Kyle would want to flee the horrible winters of Minnesota and I am sure like me he liked the food in Guadalajara area).  Sadly, the people he hired to work on his property eventually killed him.  Out of three killers, two were arrested, but the third murderer has fled to the US.  I know we have many crimes unsolved but generally speaking it is easier to get caught here.  Or could it be that the criminal knows he will get caught; he just wants to be in a better prison.  Mexican prisons are notoriously bad.
